ADHOC and AMD Announce Partnership to Deliver Low-Power Fast Ethernet Physical Layer Devices

ADHOC and AMD Announce Partnership to Deliver Low-Power Fast Ethernet Physical Layer Devices

SUNNYVALE, CA -- December 21, 1998 --Adhoc Technologies, Inc. and AMD today announced a partnership to deliver highly-optimized 10/100 Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) devices that operate at significantly lower power consumption levels than other PHYs currently available. The optimized PHY technology enables both companies to produce cost-effective, pin-compatible PHY implementations whose advantages in terms of power, size and reliability create a new set of options for network equipment vendors.

"The partnership with Adhoc provides AMD with extremely complementary PHY technology that enables system designers to both cost-reduce and simplify the design of their Fast Ethernet switches and repeaters," said Dr. Laila Razouk, vice president and general manager of AMD's Network Products Division. "The partnership provides our customers with a powerful combination of leading-edge technology and AMD's ability to deliver highly-reliable, high-volume products."

"Adhoc's Advanced Mixed Signal 'CORE' architecture is today's most cost-efficient technology when compared with the Digital Signal Processing and other 10/100BASE-X alternatives," said Dr. Stewart Wu, CEO and President of Adhoc Technologies, Inc. "By manufacturing PHY devices exhibiting the industry's lowest power and smallest die size, both AMD and Adhoc will be able to provide customers with flexibility in terms of system port density and aggressive pricing. Customers will not need to move to higher port-density PHY solutions in order to meet system cost targets."
