The PCnet-Mobile protocol firmware and device driver software are provided royalty- free with the purchase of the PCnet-Mobile device. Support for Access Points provides users with a seamless, real-time connection to the network, without plugging in. Users can access email, the corporate Intranet and share data, while moving around the building or campus. In today's information-driven society, the ability to access or send data while on the go, can substantially increase productivity and lower costs. In addition, developments to the PCnet-Mobile software extends the availability of wireless LAN technology to a greater number of users through its support for the latest industry operating systems such as Windows 95, Windows NT and Windows for Workgroups/DOS. Built-in interfaces support ISA and PCMCIA buses.

AMD teamed up with InTalk, Inc. of Melbourne, Florida to provide a complete system-level wireless LAN solution. InTalk provides the Access Points, which serve as the bridge between the wired network (Ethernet) and the wireless media. "Our joint efforts have resulted in substantially lower barriers to entry into the wireless LAN market," said Jonathan Edney, president of InTalk. "Together, AMD and InTalk provide OEMs with the tools necessary to enter the wireless LAN market quickly, while leaving room for them to add value and differentiate."

The IEEE 802.11 protocol firmware binaries are provided free of charge with the purchase of AMD's PCnet-Mobile MAC (Am79C930). In addition, royalty-free device driver software is available from AMD for immediate delivery as follows:

About PCnet-Mobile

The PCnet-Mobile device is a highly-integrated single-chip media access controller (MAC) designed to support Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS), Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) and Infra-red (Ir) physical layers. An integrated memory interface supports the MAC 802.11 protocol, PCMCIA and ISA Plug and Play configuration parameters. The device supports 3 Volt and 5 Volt power supplies and has a low-power mode to conserve battery life in portables.
