Gibson Teams with AMD to Develop Next Generation Digital Audio Workstations

AMD Athlon™ MP processors and Gibson Labs technology provide power and value for advanced studio technology based on PC workstations

AES Show, Los Angeles, CA -- October 6, 2002 --Gibson Guitar is collaborating with AMD (NYSE: AMD) to design digital audio workstations based on AMD Athlon™ MP and upcoming AMD Opteron™ processors and GibsonIt's MaGIC transport protocol technology. These Gibson-branded DAWs will allow professional and 鈥榩ro-sumer' customers to perform pre- and post-production on one workstation, using only native host processing to produce high-resolution audio for CD or DVD.

GibsonIt's MaGIC technology (http://magic.gibson.com) allows multiple workstations to be networked, providing a completely scalable solution that will meet the processing requirements of top industry professional engineers and producers as well as the pro-sumer. By consolidating audio production efforts on one stable and powerful system, producers will realize greater efficiency in their workflow and condensed production cycles, leaving more free time for the creative process.

鈥淕ibson digital audio workstations, based on AMDIt's current processor and upcoming Hammer Technology-based processors, will deliver unprecedented performance and stability that will scale to meet the changing landscape,"said Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson.

"AMD processors used for producing high-resolution audio represent another facet of AMD product adoption in end-to-end digital production, and we’re excited that the Gibson brand will be based on our technology,"said Ed Ellett, AMDIt's vice president of Client Business.

“The approach commonly used today is to try to adapt a desktop PC to become a DAW,"said Charles Boswell AMD Senior Member of Technical Staff Workstation Marketing. 鈥淔irst, the Gibson DAW was designed to provide the engineer/producer/musician with a workstation capable of recording and mastering high-resolution music right out of the box. Second, the system is architected for low noise and the esthetic required in the studio. And, the system is backed by a major OEM already in the music industry - Gibson.”

Gibson, headquartered in Nashville, was founded in 1894 and is the only musical instrument company to have established industry-standard models in every style of fretted instrument. The Gibson Les Paul guitar is recognized around the world as an icon for rock and roll music. Gibson Labs, the companyIt's technology division, has offices in Redondo Beach and Sunnyvale, CA, and has developed innovative sound reinforcement products as well as the award-winning MaGIC digital transport protocol.
