Wasabi Ports NetBSD Operating System To The AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Au1000™ Processor

New York, NY -- November 12, 2002 --Wasabi Systems, the leading provider of embedded BSD products and services, today announced completion of a port of NetBSD to AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Au1000™ processor on the AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Pb1000™ development board. NetBSD, the world's most portable embedded operating system, is widely used in sophisticated Internet infrastructure devices, and can greatly reduce time to market for OEMs developing Au1000 processor-based appliances.

The Au1000 is a low-power high-performance MIPS32™ technology-based system-on-chip, integrating many peripherals, including two 10/100 Ethernet controllers and USB host and device controllers. AMD is targeting the Au1000 processor at the networked handheld and Internet appliance markets, where low power requirements are vital. These target market applications include web pads, thin clients, enterprise PDAs, remote access equipment and other embedded products where NetBSD's advantages of scalability and functionality will enable OEMs to bring products to market faster.

"NetBSD's small footprint, reliability and advanced networking make it an ideal solution in the Au1000 processor's target markets. We're happy to be working with Wasabi to make NetBSD a more accessible choice for our customers," said Eric DeVolder, manager of software engineering for AMD's Personal Connectivity Solutions Group.

"The AMD Alchemy Solutions processor line is a solid choice for low-power, high-performance applications requiring fast processors," said Alistair Crooks, Wasabi's Director of Engineering. "Wasabi looks forward to supporting NetBSD on other members of the AMD Alchemy Solutions processor family."
