BWA and SMP Select AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Au1000™ Processor For A Breakthrough Networked Video Platform

Germany -- July 28, 2003 --

Co-operating companies BWA Technology GmbH, Germany, and SMP Co., Russia, today announced that they have selected the AMD Alchemy™ Solutions Au1000™ processor for their new CCTV (Closed Circuit TV) video/audio server. The very compact device, the size of a VHS tape, not only transmits live video streams to the 10/100 Ethernet, but also stores data from four video channels and two analog audio channels on its integrated hard disk drive in a full duplex mode. The Au1000 processor-based video/audio server allows the flexible implementation of a variety of video compression standards like H.264/MPEG4, MJPEG, Wavelet, DV and others.

"Compared to common PC-based systems the new video/audio server circuit board based on the AMD Alchemy Solutions Au1000 processor consumes less than 3.5W while enabling MPEG4 video compression with 24 fps (frames per second) and simultaneous Ethernet traffic of 100 Mbps,"said Sergei Poluboyarinov, CEO of SMP Co.

Other features of the video/audio server include: the option to cascade several units into one large synchronized multi-channel storage system, the ability to monitor external devices via the integrated RS485/232 interface and to extend the basic platform with WLAN, Bluetooth, ISDN or other alternative low bandwidth communication interfaces. Embedded Linux effectively supports these optional system extensions.

"Due to the large I/O support of the Au1000 processor," said Alexander Bograd, CEO of BWA Technology, "it was possible to efficiently implement Fast Ethernet, USB, RS485/232 and audio interfaces without having to add further hardware. The result is an extremely compact and reliable four-channel networked video recording system with outstanding performance offering high return on investment for our customers.鈥?/P> Production release as well as an official product presentation is planned for the MILIPOL-2003 exhibition in Paris at the end of November 2003.
