Matrox Announces Support for the AMD Athlon™ XP Processor 1800+ with QuantiSpeed™ Architecture

Matrox Millennium G550 and Millennium G450 offer full support and optimization for AMDIt's new processor

Montreal, Canada -- October 9, 2001 --Matrox Graphics Inc. today announced support for the new AMD Athlon™ XP processor 1800+ with QuantiSpeed™ architecture. Offering the latest in processor technology, the AMD Athlon XP processor 1800+ is designed to provide extreme performance for end users running MicrosoftIt's newest operating system, Windows® XP, balancing improvements in the amount of work done per clock cycle with increases in the processor frequency.

Continuing its commitment to provide the industry standard x86 platform, AMD has partnered with the industryIt's leading hardware and software companies, to conduct rigorous validation testing, ensuring comprehensive compatibility and seamless integration of AMDIt's innovative platform into the commercial market.

The AMD Athlon™ XP processor features QuantiSpeed™ architecture, 384KB of on-chip, full-speed cache, and support for AMD's 3DNow!™ Professional instructions for enhanced multimedia capabilities.
The AMD Athlon XP processor is compatible with AMD's Socket A infrastructure, and supports the advanced 266MHz front-side bus.
AMD Athlon XP processors are manufactured using AMD's 0.18-micron copper process technology in Fab 30 in Dresden, Germany.

The Evolution of DualHead
Launched in 1999, DualHead technology supported eight different display configurations and consisted of five modes: Clone, DVDMax, Multi-Display, TV Output, and Zoom. A year later, second-generation DualHead expanded on these features with the addition of Matrox MultiDesk, Snapshot, Multi-Zoom and DVD playback on a monitor鈥攁n alternative to the original secondary output to TV.
