Andersen to Independently Audit AMD's Benchmarking of the AMD Athlon™ XP processor

AUSTIN, TEXAS -- October 9, 2001 --When AMD, a global supplier of microprocessors, wanted to have a third party independently examine the benchmarking performance of its new AMD Athlon™ XP processor, it turned to Andersen.

Andersen is auditing AMDIt's statements regarding the results of current industry benchmarks. These industry benchmark results are various application-based indicators of a processor's performance rather than solely megahertz or gigahertz.

鈥淭his type of new assurance work represents a service responsive to todayIt's economy as more and more entities seek third parties to audit statements they make about important aspects of their business,"said Edward Hill, partner in AndersenIt's Risk Consulting group for the Austin and Houston area. “The results of our work will enhance the credibility of the statements that management makes about their product.”

Patrick Moorhead, vice president of Customer Advocacy for AMD, said, 鈥淚t is important that the public know that there are reliable indicators of microprocessor performance that can withstand any and all scrutiny. With its world renowned reputation for assurance services, Andersen provides a level of credibility and comfort for people in assessing the performance of the new AMD Athlon XP processor.” In addition to a reputation as a world leader in traditional attestation services, Andersen has staked its claim as an innovator in non-traditional attest engagements as well, including:

  • Major League Baseball selected Andersen to serve as the official authenticator of select baseball memorabilia.
