The Portland Group Compiler Technology,
STMicroelectronics and AMD
PGI Workstation
5.1 is the premier suite of production-quality Fortran, C, and C++ compilers and tools for AMD
Opteron processor-based systems running Linux or Win32 operating systems. Compared to Release 5.0,
Release 5.1 of the PGI compilers for AMD Opteron provides performance improvements that average over
12% across the SPECFP2K Fortran benchmarks, Polyhedron Fortran 90 benchmarks, and NPB 3.0 OpenMP
benchmarks using a uniform base set of 3 compiler options. In addition to these ongoing
progressive performance improvements for AMD64 technology processors, Release 5.1 of the PGI
compilers and tools includes the OpenMP/MPI-capable PGDBG debugger and PGPROF performance profiler,
interoperability with key 3rd party software tools such as Etnus TotalView, a bundled ACML math
library with highly-tuned BLAS, LAPACK and FFT routines, and full printed and online documentation
and tutorials. The PGI compilers and tools are available in a range of licensing options designed to
address the needs of users ranging from the individual scientist or engineer up to and including the
largest and most demanding supercomputer centers in the world. The PGI 5.1 compilers and tools
provide the most comprehensive Linux/x86 compiler support in the industry, including support for Red
Hat™ 7.0 through 9.0 and Enterprise Linux 3.0, SuSE™ 7.1 through 9.0 and the 64-bit SuSE Linux
Enterprise Server 8.
