Enhanced Virus Protection capability
  • Mobile AMD Sempron processors will help provide a more secure computing environment with AMDIt's Enhanced Virus Protection (EVP) capability. Combined with MicrosoftIt's Data Execution Prevention in the upcoming Windows® XP Service Pack 2, AMDIt's EVP is designed to prevent certain types of viruses from replicating and spreading to other systems. Enhanced Virus Protection will by default only protect the user's Windows operating system. Users must, at installation of Microsoft Windows® XP Service Pack 2 or when they first purchase their systems, enable the protection of their applications and associated files or they will not be protected from memory buffer overrun attacks. Advanced Micro Devices, inc. and Microsoft strongly recommend that users install and regularly update third party anti-virus software as part of their security strategy.

A:AMD plans to offer the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors into 2005. As with all AMD products, we continually evaluate market needs for the AMD Athlon XP and Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processors and remain committed to delivering the most relevant technology that our customers and end users demand.

A:The Mobile AMD Sempron processor is an entry-level processor for everyday computing needs. Newer technology such as 64-bit operating systems are targeted for higher performance needs such as CAD, audio and video editing, large database applications, high-end consumer games, and other high-performance applications. For these uses, we recommend purchasing either an AMD Athlon 64 processor, or a Mobile AMD Athlon 64 processor-based system.

A:Mobile AMD Sempron processors based on the Socket 754 platform may use up to PC3200 DDR memory.

A:The Mobile AMD Sempron processor operating at 25 Watts will be available in model numbers 2600+ and 2800+, designed for thin & light computing. Frequency for those mobile model numbers are 1.6GHz.

The Mobile AMD Sempron processor operating at 62 Watts will be available in model numbers 2600+, 2800+ and 3000+. Frequency for those model numbers are 1.6GHz for the 2600+ and 2800+ model numbers and 1.8GHz for the 3000+ model.
